Welcome to the Namibia Climate, Land, Energy, Water systems (CLEWs) model

The Namibia CLEWs model was created by UNDESA and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, in collaboration with the National Planning Commission of Namibia, UN Namibia, the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Namibia, the University of Namibia and FAO Namibia.

The model calculates the least-cost configuration of the energy, food and water supply chains in Namibia over the years, which meets every year demands and respects resource constraints. This is done also by taking into account links between the energy, food and water supply chains (e.g. need for more electricity for pumping water, as irrigation infrastructure is expanded).

Below you find details about the purpose, scope and structure of the model, the data used, some of the key scenarios modelled and key results.
